As Christians we have the privilege of taking our prayerful requests to the creator. Most of us can readily testify of the awesome satisfaction of answered prayer. In this edition of Acts246.com, we’ve reflected upon part of the testimony of Hudson Taylor.

Once again we will look to one of his stories to encourage our hearts to pray.

On January 16th, 1858, Mr. Hudson Taylor married Maria Dyer. Within a year of their wedding Maria became pregnant but their early joy was turned to anxiety when Maria fell desperately ill. In a very short time it became clear that Maria was close to death: her eyes were sunken, her face pale. Much prayer was made but to no avail. Every remedy was tried but eventually failed, and time was running out for his beloved Maria.

With his medical training as a resource, another remedy came into Hudson’s mind, but he felt that he dare not try it without first consulting with his good friend Dr. Parker at the hospital some two miles away. On the way he was praying with all the strength in his heart when suddenly the promise of God came powerfully to him: ‘Call upon me in the day of trouble: I will deliver thee and thou shalt glorify Me’ (Psalm 50:15). He seized upon it, and pleaded the promise in prayer with quickened faith. A deep peace came over him and he was assured his prayer had been heard. He completed his journey and had his consultation with Dr. Parker who approved his remedy. However, as soon as Mr. Hudson arrived home, one glance told him that Maria was recovering without using any medicine. God had answered prayer. Six months later their first child Grace was born.
